After a year of collective bargaining, TWU, USW National Local 1944 reached a tentative agreement with Telus in early October. The local bargaining committee held meetings of members across Canada in October and early this month to discuss the draft collective agreement and vote on the preliminary agreement. Ballots were counted on November 23, with 68 percent of voters in favor of adoption. Despite very significant profits in recent years, Telus has, on the whole, transferred significant economic benefits to corporate executives and shareholders. Membership in Local 1944 provides the quality service telus customers depend on and, through their union, they will continue to insist on fair treatment. The union will be vigilant to ensure that Telus respects the terms of the agreement and does not accept any violations detrimental to its members. 2. March 2017 – The Telus-TWU, USW National Local 1944 2016-2021 collective agreement is now available online. Telus generally has the right to lead employees, as it deems appropriate. The inclusion of „appropriate provisions“ in cases within the competence of management is not manifestly inappropriate or contrary to [the union`s] right to act as the sole collective bargaining agency. The new agreement is for a period of six years, with lump sum payments to members after ratification and a 2% increase in salaries in each of the last three years of the agreement.
VANCOUVER – Members of Canada`s largest United Steelworkers (USW) facility have ratified a new collective agreement with Telus. The employer requested a judicial review of this decision, which stated that, in some cases, a union could participate in housing, but that it was limited. If a dwelling did not fall within this limited class, the accommodation procedure was subject to the reservations of the management or, in this case, was allocated to the employer through the implementation of the collective agreement. To access it, please realize that uswlocals.org/system/files/telus_twu_2016to2021_en_2.pdfDer collective agreement has now gone to the printing works and we will inform our members if they are ready for distribution. In Solidar, The Telecommunications Workers Union, United Steelworkers National Local 1944 * TELUS and the Telecommunications Workers` Union, the locally unified steelmakers in 1944 approved the terms of a provisional collective agreement Case law quite strongly supports telus` view that „appropriate provisions“ do not fall within the „bargaining mandate“ or „bargaining mandate“ of the [union], except in the circumstances set out in the case law. Exceptions are well established: where trade unions participate in a discriminatory policy or rule; if the agreement of the union is necessary to facilitate accommodation and no other solution can be found; or when a worker requests the participation of the union. Issues relating to workers` accommodation are directly related to a union`s power of representation and their support among workers in the bargaining unit is fundamentally influenced by the fact that these workers perceive the union`s ability to represent them on important issues that are based on the collective agreement. . . .
